Questions and Answers (FAQ)

I've already taked an IQ/intelligence test. What score do I need to qualify for Mensa?
Hey! I looked up my scores and I qualify. What do I do now?
I'm a member and I've changed my e-mail address, physical address, name, sex, etc. Here's my new info ...

I've heard about Mensa and I'm interested in joining. What do I do?

To qualify for membership, you need to score in the top 2% on a standardized test of intelligence. You can take the Mensa Admissions Test or another proctored test. To join and to find out more about the process, visit Amerian Mensa's Join page. All membership issues are handled by the American Mensa national office. Richmond Area Mensa does not process memberships.

Alternatively, you can show up for a local testing session with a check for $40 and take the test. To find out exactly where and when tests are held in the Richmond area, contact the RAM Testing Coordinator. Tests are also held in the Fredericksburg area. Your test results will be sent directly to American Mensa Ltd. If you qualify, you will be invited to join.

I've already taken an IQ/intelligence test. What score do I need to qualify for Mensa?

Your score needs to be in the top 2% of those taking the test. The IQ number varies depending on which test you take since all are scored differently. Mensa accepts the scores from a lot of standardized tests. To find out what score you need and which tests qualify, read the American Mensa Qualifying Scores page.

Hey! I looked up my scores and I qualify. What do I do now?

American Mensa has a page for submitting your test scores. Follow the instructions you find there. All membership issues are handled by the national office. Richmond Area Mensa does not process memberships or change your membership status.

Thanks for letting the local group know as it can take up to 8 weeks for the national office to process your new info to us. However, you must also notify the national office directly as RAM does not process membership changes. Not updating your information with the national office will affect all communications to you from the national office and RAM. You could miss a newsletter, the Mensa Bulletin or vital e-mail announcement if you don't update your membership record. Log in to the Members area and choose "Profile Update."
